Reading Group

Since 2021, the Elizabeth Bowen Society has been hosting online reading groups to discuss Bowen’s short story books and novels. Join us and embark on a thought-provoking exploration of her work.

Our next reading group is on Wednesday 26th March at 7pm (GMT). Join the Bowen society as we go through the magnificent stories of Ann Lee’s. Published in 1926, it was Bowen’s second short stories collection, an early moment in her career in which a young writer was finding her literary voice. “Bowen hadn’t read many short stories when she began to write her own,” writes Tessa Hadly; yet, “[these] stories don’t break the genre frame; rather, they swell it from the inside and make it strange. That’s her modernism.”
